I see in the credits to Phantoms that Dean Koontz actually wrote the screenplay to the movie. Interesting. I'd never noticed that before.

Perhaps I'm just remembering the book differently because I read it sooooooo long ago, but the movie did not have the same effect on me that the book did.

Having written screenplays and studied adaptation a little, I certain know that you generally have to change things for the visual effect and also you have to change/condense the story for the big screen, but this just didn't have the same effect on me that the book did.

The book was much better. A phrase from Jay and Silent Bob's latest movie is now stuck in my head. *giggles*

After reading the book, I was thinking to myself, "Yay, now I know what happened to all those missing people."

Yeah, I was thinking the book was better, too.

Are you okay?

I think so, but my sister is considering bailing my ex out. I'm pissed all over again.

WHAT??? Why the hell would she do that???

Because she is a bitch. When we first broke up she attacked me. How dare I cause her stress. Did I know how my divorce and break up was affecting her? It was all about her.

Ooooh, no. I'm sooo sorry.

She sounds like my adopted sister. Seriously.

Can your sister afford to bail him out?

Dear God, Koontz actually butchered his own book that badly? I'm appalled. The book was vastly different from the movie. For me, the book was subtle and creepy, while the movie is heavy-handed and cheese-filled. I'm disappointed in Mr. Koontz. Hehehe. (Though not as disappointed as when I read The Taking. Talk about suckage. Fortunately, he redeemed himself with Velocity.

Yes, he did.

I have not read The Taking or Velocity. Truly sad that they sucked.

I think most of the problems with the movie were the actors. Ben Affleck couldn't act then any more than he can now. ;-)

Otherwise, I think the movie is pretty close to the book but Koontz is a much better novel writer than screenplay writer and he's able to put images in your head from writing that the budget of that movie could not reproduce on the screen.

In my opinion anyway. That's my favorite book of his. *grin*

Several people have mentioned that they didn't like Ben Affleck in the sheriff's role.

Yeah, I think Koontz is a better novel-writer, too.

Phantoms was probably my favorite book, too, thought I did like Whispers, and one other that I can't remember the title, too, also.

Yeah, I'd hoped that because Koontz was doing his own screenplay that Phantoms would be good. Unfortunately, they had to go for the box office draw by sticking Ben Affleck in it. The Sheriff in the book was so not meant to be played by Affleck. But Rose McGowan. *drool* :-)

There was actually a book called Intensity by Koontz that was turned into a mini-series for TV that actually wasn't too bad.

Of course, I haven't read Koontz in a while and now could care less if his books and movies flop. LOL...

Sad that they had to ruin it, huh?

You know, I think I didn't see Intensity

I know you haven't been reading him lately. I admire your moral fortitude. I haven't read him lately...just because I haven't read him lately. :)

Very sad. Very, very sad. I can't think of a single Koontz book that's been made into a movie that I thought was super-bitchin'...

You know, I think I didn't see Intensity

It's not bad for what it is... a TV mini-series...
