California Writing Groups

Does anyone know of any southern California speculative fiction writing groups? And, if you do, are they accepting new members?

(I can't remember if I've asked this before. I've thought about it, but I don't think I've asked. Thoughts escape me quickly sometimes with everything else that's going on.)

Wish I did--but then it would have to be close...so far, every SoCal group I've heard of has managed to be a solid hour's drive plus from me!

Thanks. I appreciate that. I miss being involved. I almost posted twice today (discussion topics) and then just got busy and distracted and never made it back to my e-mail. :)

My last day at work is either going to be Wednesday or Thursday. I'm going to take a day or two off before I start job hunting again. (Though I hope things will actually work out in the meantime.) Then, I'm hoping to finish novel and get to work on crits.

Sometimes, I just feel the need for face to face human contact, and have never had the opportunity to be a part of an "in the flesh" writing group before. I'd hoped there was one around.

Whereabouts in SoCal? I've been looking for one myself, in the San Diego area.

I'm in the San Gabriel Valley, near LA, but to meet with other folks who write the same type of material, I'd be willing to compromise once every month or two and meet some place in between.

I'm wondering if an online community of some kind, with weekly "meetings" via chat and monthly in-person meetings, would be feasible and useful.
