I can feel it. :)
I love fall. It's my favorite time of year, and it's always interesting to see that key books in my various series and even some of my screenplays, start in the fall.
It was always my favorite season when I lived in Nashville. Everything cooled down, the humidity dimmed, and the leaves burst into the most brilliant colors imagineable. I lived in an area known as Oak Hill, and I don't know what it's like now--I haven't been there in years--but, we were surrounded by woods then, and Radnor Lake, with all of its woods, wasn't far off.
I still love trees, love the changing of the leaves. Love the green of life returning in the spring. Trees are friendly and protective and maybe that's why I refuse to move from the apartment I live in now. For being in LA County, we have an enormous quantity of trees.
And, I love it.
But, the trees around here don't always turn. Some are evergreen, some are palm, some are eucalyptus (which smell wonderful in the rain.) But, the leaves that do turn, don't turn until Thanksgiving or Christmas because of the soCal climate.
But, I'm starting to feel the pull of fall. Maybe because of the overcast in the mornings, maybe because the temps are down some, maybe because school starts soon. Or maybe I'm just looking forward to that elusive bit of goodness I know is going to happen.
Whatever it is, I welcome it. The last year has not brought a lot of happiness. Anything good--no matter how small--is welcomed with open arms.

Date: 2005-08-14 06:29 pm (UTC)Fall just seems to have more energy to it. Winter too. My oldest son's theory is that it's because so many living things go dormant during the cooler months and aren't sapping as much of the life energy at that point. I think it makes sense. :)
You really think my post might be helpful to people? I don't mind you sharing it if you really think it would help. It would probably be presumptuous on my part to post it, though, don't you think? :)

Date: 2005-08-16 02:42 pm (UTC)Sure, if you want to post a question on QnI, I can cut and paste my post from LJ, or elaborate a bit or something on it.
I'm glad it made you think. :)
I must say that I have worked for a long time to figure out something that worked for me so I wouldn't have to flounder my way through a story and also so I wouldn't feel trapped into following something that didn't really work for me either.
I'm still refining, but at least I have something I can work on, that keeps me focused, and headed the right direction.

Date: 2005-08-16 02:46 pm (UTC)Have you ever driven out around Dumont Dunes, on the road between Baker and Shoshone? After all the rain this past winter, I was driving up to Pahrump and there was like a LAKE outside of Baker that stretched across the desert for MILES. I was amazed.
This past weekend, the south end of Pahrump had to be closed because of flash floods. Can you imagine?
They've sure had some big ones this summer.
Oh, and fires. Around Vegas and Pahrump, both...because of lightning strikes.
