Well, I FINALLY got brave and took the plunge. I took my 1,111+ page novel in progress and officially turned it into a trilogy. I managed to get it all split up the way I think the words will fall into three separate stories, and it took many, MANY hours to get it right. (At least I HOPE it's right. I keep telling myself I can fix it later. That's my mantra.)

Tonight, I'm still going to post word count the way I've been doing it, but maybe I'll switch tomorrow to using the individual novels. If I feel comfortable with them. I had to make some changes here and there to give them each their own distinct story lines instead of making them completely dependent on one another, so that's going to take some new plotting.

Hope to find time tomorrow to draw up plot points on each so I can get them finished up.

Hopefully, I haven't messed myself up and I can continue and actually finish rough drafts on each in a reasonable amount of time. :)

The new working titles are:

The Chosen Ones
The Sunken City
The Magic Within

All still under the series title of Beginning of the End.

Except that now, the first three trilogies I'm working on will ALL fall under this series title now.

The first trilogy, that I'm actively working on now, takes place in Rosemont.

The second trilogy takes place in Japan.

The third takes place in Seraphim's Cove.

Then, The Beginning of the End series will be over.

All three trilogies will cross in one stand-alone novel called Sorrow's End.

Then, several characters from the first two will meet in Flight of the Thunderbird.

Then, I head on into the two trilogies that will actually bring about "the end".

Whew!

Wow, ambitious! Good luck with the organization and splitting up into a trilogy.

Thanks. :)

I kinda miss my big huge novel with it's big, huge page count, but I do already think that having it split is much more manageable.

mind-boggling scope

So that's like 17 books in total, right?
You're ambitious! It's mad! I love the idea!

Actually, there are 18. I had left out one called Angel in Waiting. It's another stand-alone that comes before Flight of the Thunderbird and is very significant to some decisions that Lilli, my protagonist makes.

Thanks. There are actually more novels in backstory and another series that comes after "the end"...if I ever have enough time in this lifetime to write them.

You'd laugh if I told you how many books I have on my series outline. They span over eons of history in the HUGE universe I've created. :)

I love world-building as much as I love character-building, I think.

Question

Have you plotted all of them? How many years do you think it will take? Might you get bored along the way? Supposing your taste in writing changes over the next five years? Will completion be influenced by sales? Tade (http://icepicklobotomy.blogspot.com/)

Yes, actually, they all have plots. Not all are completely detailed yet, though some of them are. And, of course, some of them change and flow with new ideas I add as I write.

I actually have 13 of them started already. Three of them have almost 400 pages. One has 335 pages. Another has 200+. Three more have 100+. The others have various numbers of pages. So, I already have a fairly decent start. I also have some significant wordage on some of the backstory novels and the "Broken World" series which comes after "the end".

IF I had time to write regularly, I think I could finish one every two months. I did my 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo with no trouble, so I could do that every month...I guess even with my job if I really tried. (And wasn't distracted by job problems.)

Oh, no. I think I could never get bored with it. Never.

Lilli has been with me for close to 10 years now.

I don't think my taste in writing will change, since I've had this in the developing stage for soooo LONG. I also have two other series I can switch to for a while if I need a break. One deals with superheroes and the other is another contemporary fantasy series that has no aliens, but lots of fantastic creatures and magic powers.

No, completion wouldn't be influenced by sales, if I ever got so lucky. I think, now that I've started, I'd finish this just for myself...if I ever have the time.
