I've lost more weight. Not like a drastic amount. Three more pounds. But, this is in one week's time.

I'm THRILLED to have lost weight, but I'm going to keep an eye on the loss to see if it's happening too quickly.

However, here's what I'm wondering.

I used to grab fast food breakfast in the morning and fast food for lunch a lot of the time.

Now, I eat a bowl of cereal or some toast or something here at home, have a big stick pretzel for break (they have a HUGE bucket of them at Staples for $3.99...best pretzels I've ever had), and then I take my lunch so I can write. And, I am admitedly having smaller portions in addition to it NOT being fast food.

Could that constitute two pounds per week weight loss? I just started noticing it. I just started eating at home and taking lunch a few weeks ago.

I have not been my current weight in about...oh...8 or 9 years, maybe, and am totally thrilled. Wondering if it would help even more if I was able to walk again every day.

If I could just lose 16 more pounds by the end of the year, I'd jump up and down and cheer on New Year's Day. :)

But, is that too much, too fast? If I'm eating regularly, but just changed what I eat and adjusted the portions a bit?

It's something to think about.

You'll lose weight quickly in the first two weeks. Then it stabilises. Walking will help a very great deal, so will eating more protein and less carb. Halve the cereal but add a banana.

That sounds like a reasonable weigh loss considering the changes you've made. Weight loss also depends on how many lbs you have extra in the first place - the more, the faster the weight loss. The last lbs will be more difficult to shed.

I believe that changing your eating habits to healthy habits, instead of weight-loss diets, is supposed to be healthier. Fast food is often laden with lots more calories than you'd expect - sugars added to sauces, etc.

What a lot of people find is that when they stop eating 'fast food' they lose weight. Fast food give up health for convieniance. In my opinion :)

Way to go. I hope you start feeling better soon. The healthier you eat and the more active you become the more fat you wil lose due to your metabolism getting straitened out and burning your fat reserves.

ok off my soapbox :)

two to three pounds a week is actually the perfect weight loss amount. it's what we reccomend to post-partum women. also...at just two or three pounds a week, you know you're not loosing muscle mass, just fat.
and sixteen pounds by the end of the year is quite reasonable because there are eight weeks or so left and that gives you two or so pounds a week to loose...not a bad plan...especially if you start walking again too.
congratulations!!

actually a bananna is too high in sugar...add almonds or yoghurt for protein.

People don't realize that bananas have a higher sugar content than most fruits. I try to eat only a half, when I eat them, and then, it's only for potassium. (One of the meds I take is a prescription water pill that often gives me leg cramps so I have to have potassium sometimes.)

I can't have regular yogurt, either, because it's high in sugar.

However, there is not a low carb yogurt that has very little sugar or carbs in it that I CAN eat and that I sometimes substitute for cereal.

Of course, like with any other low sugar food, it's VERY expensive. Sigh.

plain yohgurt that you add splenda and sugar free toranni syrup to can be much more kind to your budget... (I use the trader joe's plain greek yoghurt...mmm! but I do add a piece of fruit or just the cereal instead of any sugar or substitute at all...::I'm trying to avoid having to take Metformin::)

it is icky stuff. I take a thyroid medication that seems to help, but I still have to be very strict about my diet...

I think it's great that you're loosing weight so effortlessly!

Congrats on the weightloss........

It can make a huge difference. I've lost several pounds just from eating more at home and getting more exercise walking back and forth for classes. Fast food is evil. Too bad it's so convenient.

Firstly, congratulations! :D That's such a wonderful feeling to have.

I think it definitely could constitute that kind of weight loss. 2 pounds a week is a healthy amount to lose; I find that sometimes I can lose that much in a week just by eating normally (which for me inclused chocolate and crisps!) and walking a lot. Although i'm at a plateau right now *grumbles*.

I think that the measure of whether or not it's too much too fast is whether your change in eating habits are a diet or a sustainable lifestyle change (I see diets as something which come to an end and therefore I don't do them!). Providing you're getting enough energy and nutrients, you should be fine. I don't know if you ahve this in the US, but we have a programme called You Are What You Eat wherin the crazy Gillian McKeith (a nutritionist) takes really unhealthy and quite overweight people who eat nothing but junk and puts them on a mainly veggie eating plan with lots of exercise. They generally manage to lose 28 to 40 pounds in 8 weeks, and that's on TV! Your weight loss is so much more stable and healthier than that! :)
