The good news was that I actually got out of work with only 15 minutes of overtime today. Is that not extraordinary??? Woot!
I still didn't get home until after 6:30 because I had to take oldest to college night class and wait for youngest to finish play practice, but...
That's beside the point.
The point is that I got out of work almost ON TIME!!!
Okay...okay...now...for the...
GREAT news!!!
And, I'm sure this is old hat for most of you writerly folks, but I have to admit to emitting a squee or two over this.
Over the weekend, I sent out my first two really, honest-to-god, completely, totally serious e-mail novel query letters to agents.
(Let me add that once upon a time, about 15 years ago, when I knew NOTHING, I sent out a query about a picture book I'd written and about a year ago, I sent out a half-hearted, I don't really want to do this e-query, but I don't really count those cause they weren't really thought out beforehand.)
I'm not sure I even posted about the queries here because, well, gosh darn it, I was in the middle of overtime hell on Saturday and Sunday.
But, to cut to the chase (cause I have to go pick up oldest from his class)...
I JUST GOT A REQUEST FOR A PARTIAL ON ONE OF THE QUERY LETTERS!!!
Woo-hoo!
::doing the happy dance::
I'm excited. Can you tell?
I'm sure this kind of thing becomes old hat, but I'm thrilled that my very first query sent yielded interest.
I'm going to give myself two days to rest from exhaustion and overtime from hell and then polish up the pages requested and send them out.
So...that was it. My GREAT news!
I'M EXCITED!!!

Date: 2006-10-05 03:14 am (UTC)I haven't queried agents yet. My experiences are limited to sending out a short story.... again and again.

Date: 2006-10-09 01:42 am (UTC)I'm just starting to query, and have only queried two agents so far. I figure it's a good thing to start small and see what happens.
When I feel more secure in it, I'll send out more.
Good luck with the short stories you're sending out!

Date: 2006-10-05 04:48 am (UTC)to be honest, i'm not sure you've posted about querying/submitting at all since i started reading your LJ. or if you do, it's in a filter i can't see (we are "strangers," after all). all i see are your posts about writing and editing. which i greatly enjoy!
excellent news! i need to get off my butt and submit more stuff. one of these days...

Date: 2006-10-09 01:47 am (UTC)Most of the querying I've posted on my LJ has dealt with my screenplays, I think.
I think this is a first for me with the novels. I only sent two out. Starting small and working my way up. :)
