NaNoWriMo 2006
Aug. 26th, 2006 08:03 pmHow many of you folks have decided to participate in this year's NaNo already?
I've seen a few people post about it and talk of ideas.
I think it was almost this time last year that I started considering my idea and by the end of September, it was completely plotted. Made writing a heck of a lot easier.
I have my basic idea for this year already.
The book I'm going to write is entitled City of Fallen Stars, and I'm already excited about it even though I don't have a complete plot or any tiny details except for the city itself and the characters involved. And, a broad generalization of the plot.
What I do have is the feel for it, which is WONDERFUL. When I start with the feeling and images and scenes that play through my mind, I usually have a great writing experience.
So, I'm looking forward to writing this book, but I'm going to be good and not start the actualy writing until November 1st.
Before I do anything else, I have to finish the book that comes before it, Eyes That Watch the World. Hope to have that complete by the end of October.
We'll see how things go.
After that, I'll be ready to start editing all the novels I've got complete because they'll roll out, one after another, after these two novels.
Then, I'll be ready to get to work on finishing the others I have started and they'll fall in line after the ones that are finished. (And, of course, there are still new ones to start. Isn't writing wonderful?)
I love it when ideas come together. :)

Date: 2006-08-27 04:52 am (UTC)I just have to finish my first "book" before I plan anything for NaNo since they're two seperate stories and I want to try not to get unfocused. I'm a bit iffy because I'm afraid I'll get blocked when I go to edit/rewrite Chronicles (current "book") and will want to work on my NaNo project instead, but as long as I get the first draft of Chronicles done by early October I'll be happy and willing to take a break.

Date: 2006-08-27 05:06 am (UTC)But last year I dropped out for the first time because of an unexpected manuscript request, and so I do feel like I need to make up for it this year ;)
So, I guess the jury is still out. It depends on where my current writing projects are in October.

Date: 2006-08-27 08:10 pm (UTC)For me, I could only do a NaNo-type writing process on a book that isn't currently on my plate or even related to one that is. But I do have a few ideas floating around that were originally going to be short stories until I realized (yet again), that they really wanted to be novels when they grew up. And one of those has recently started poking at me from inside my head, so I'm guessing it would be that one. :)
But truthfully, I would be much happier if I could just finish the one that I'm currently working on. In the ideal world, I'd finish a decent draft of that by sometime in October, put it away in a secret drawer with a time-lock, and then spend November doing something totally different, like NaNo. And then go back and do revisions on the first one over Christmas.
That would be ideal, but I don't know that I quite yet trust myself to be able to make that happen.

Date: 2006-08-28 01:57 pm (UTC)However, I'm sort of cheating, with a "Part 2" that will start, uhm, at whatever point I've reached in the novel I started for last Nano and am still working on.
This time around, I'm less concerned about word count than about reaching some kind of ending. Although hitting 50k would be nice.
