My sister,
dragovianknight can write the best drabbles in the world.
She's been rubbing off on folks around her, too, that want to write drabbles because she can accomplish SO MUCH in just 100 words and then string them together in a mini-universe so that they tell an entire story arc.
I'm very jealous, Dev, and you know that. :)
I've been fascinated with drabbles, I guess, because I would love to be able to boil down the essence of a scene or an emotion down into 100 words and watch it flow.
Why?
Just because I want to be able to do it. Writing short is intriguing to me because I'm not good at it and I want to learn.
So, today, I just broke down and did it. Took an emotional scene from my own novel universe and boiled it down to 100 words.
I affectionately called it the "drabble from hell".
But, at least, it's 100 words. Complete. :)

She knows him, knows she could save him, knows she wants to more than anything in the universe. But, if she saves him, time will change. People she knows--people she doesn’t--depend on her to make the right decision.
To lose him...again.
She watches as the light and the energy close around him. Watches him vanish and knows she’ll find him again, even if it takes forever.
“I’ll love you, Daddy,” she whispers, even though he can no longer hear her.

Date: 2006-07-09 04:26 pm (UTC)To me, that's the essence of a drabble. It doesn't matter that I don't know who these people are, or their situation. The emotion of the moment comes through, and I'm captivated by it.
Now I want to read more. I want to learn who they are and why she has to say good-bye.
