I've noticed that, since the new owners purchased our apartment complex some 6-8 months ago, all they've done is outdoor cosmetic work.

They cut down trees they didn't like, made new signs, painted, re-constructed all the balconies and patio fences, remodeled the office, which had just been remodeled a year or two ago, re-vamped laundry rooms.

However, there's a broken step outside my apartment and another one cracked through in two places. We've reported it twice in the past three months. FINALLY, last week, they taped it up with WARNING tape...not to fix it, just to cover their sorry asses, I guess. The tape is more of a hazard, however, than the broken steps. (One is broken to the point of there only being about six inches of concrete all the way across to step on to climb the stairs.)

This is a nice complex in a nice area, so one would think, "What gives?"

Well, we got a letter in the mail yesterday. Seems they've decided to petition the city (and the state) to turn our complex into condos. So, for now, until they get their answer, I guess they're not concerned with the tenants.

Quite frankly, I thought they were making the complex pretty to sell it. Now I know they're going for the big bucks by selling the units individually.

So...

I'm looking into alternatives. If the city approves their request, it should still be a while before they're ready to sell the units.

I'm going to be ready to move, just in case.

Guess we'll see what happens.
