HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!!!
Mar. 17th, 2006 05:57 amTo one and all!
You folks wearing green today? Doing anything special to celebrate?
I was going to cook corned beef and cabbage in my crock pot today, but Papa John's is having a "buy two, get one free" on their large specialty pizzas for St. Patrick's Day, so kids want that instead.
Maybe I'll fix the corned beef on Sunday. I love corned beef.
What are you folks going to do?

Date: 2006-03-17 02:08 pm (UTC)I was going to wear green, but ended up with a red t-shirt, instead. I'd bake, but the propane tank is apparently leaking, so I can't do that until they fix it. If they fix it this morning, I may still bake something nice.
Pizza sounds good, though, especially Papa John's!

Date: 2006-03-17 02:38 pm (UTC)I enjoy it sometimes but I really love the cabbage! Mmmm. Cabbage and anything -- can't be beat.
Another yummy from the Isles is what I've termed Rumple-de-thumps. Mix even amounts of boiled potatoes and boiled cabbage, while still hot, add some cheddar cheese and diced red onions. You don't have to whip the mixture smooth, in fact, it tastes even better slightly lumpy. The onions get a perfect crunch to them with the heat of the cabbage and potatoes. Hmm, perhaps I'll make some of that over the weekend.

Date: 2006-03-17 03:08 pm (UTC)I am wearing green, and I even painted my nails bright, spring green. My paternal grandmother was Irish, and my dad used to tell us kids we were 1/3 Irish. ;)

Date: 2006-03-17 04:17 pm (UTC)Genuine and classic Irish recipe --great with corned beef: 'champ': all measurements are personal judements: mash a pot of spuds with a load of butter until soft and creamy. In a separate pan, heat a cop or so of milk --you don't want this too sloppy-- with a generous handful of finely chopped spring onion (poaching in milk takes the raw edge of the thing). Add onions and as much milk as you need to get a creamy, yummy consistency. Shape into a huge green speckled 'Close Encounters-esque' volcano, with a caldera on the top. Here you add more butter and let it melt As genuinely Irish as you can get --eaten every day somewhere over here. Your friends will worship you.

Date: 2006-03-17 06:50 pm (UTC)Until recently, I didn't know corned beef was an Irish food. To me, corned beef and pastrami are staples of a good kosher deli. :)
Happy St. Pat's Day!

Date: 2006-03-18 02:39 am (UTC)Deal with lots of customers and be "scolded" by some 22 year old co-worker who told me that the channel Fox Family isn't "work appropriate" and I needed to put the tv on something "work appropriate." People've watched music videos back there. Which is going to be less appropriate, the music videos with swearing and skanky women or shows like Full House? X.X
Sorry, I'm ranting a tiny bit. But that's what happened today. Will be explaining more whenever I update my LJ.
