What great background music for gutting a novel. That's what I'm doing to Wildfire right now. Taking out a lot of stuff I don't like and then I'll replace it with new plot.

Glad you're writing. I'm doing a 2000-word book report on Fight Club. Unfortunately I've found more themes than I thought I would and the words are spilling over the 3000-word mark. Sigh.

Mom is in scenic Hacienda Heights, where we've had the "family homestead" since, hmm, 1963, I think.

Still doing it. It's at a staggering 4590 words right now and I'm only on chapter eight. Who knew? There's just too much in the guy's mind. I'm guessing I'll just power through and start trimming no matter how large it is when I finish.
Please don't. Don't allow yourself to go down that road. You need to think of yourself as God in your fiction. It works for me (although if someone doesn't get the metaphor you can get some odd looks).
