I already do two jobs here. Accounting and Human Resources. (Plus a few odds and ends.)

I have two interviews coming in today and one tomorrow.

I have labor cards I'm working on.

I have invoices and collections to take care of.

And, yet, I have to give up my lunch hour and spend an hour answering the phones because the back-up person took a vacation day today and the person answering them needs to go out for an hour.

Sigh.

I lose my lunch completely because I have a 1:00 appointment and she's taking the hour during lunch time. That will so screw up my blood sugar. Bleh.

Wasn't I just saying I needed some time off?

have her bring you back some food, then! since you're basically doing her a favor.

You could always see if she'll compromise and only go out for 30 minutes?

And {{hugs}} - I was in the same situation. It sucks.

That sounds just like my office. Fortunately, we always have stuff squirreled away for just such an emergency. Good luck!

I would bring the matter to the attention of whomever there is above you and ask them how they would like you to handle it in the future. It's not okay for you to do that to your body, and it's an HR risk, too, so they shouldn't be placing you in a position where you feel it is necessary.

Sounds like me. :/ I'm a Compliance Specialist in everything but the actual title, yet when the secretary in Legal goes to lunch and there's no one to cover, well, who ya gonna call?

BTW, depending on your employee category (exempt vs. non-exempt) they may be violating labor laws by not allowing you to take a lunch. That's entirely outside of the potential physical damage you're doing to yourself by not being able to take a lunch. ::hugs::

Me, I'm going berserk today (and what's that about taking a lunch again? - I can tell there's not a snowball's chance in hell of getting out of here for 15 minutes) because some people don't bother turning in critical audit documents until THE DAY BEFORE THEY'RE DUE, even tho' the deadline was a week ago. ::cries at seven sets x thousands of pages x 3 binders that I need to organize by 3 PM tomorrow::

Hang in there......

PS--Yep, I feel for you. I understand how hard it is to balance a writing life and a real (and hectic) job. good luck with that as well.
