Sigh...

I just wasted the majority of a day.

The Production Manager wanted set of reports that contained certain information, so I accumulated all the data and put together a really nice set of linking Excel spreadsheets, laid out exactly the way he said he wanted it.

Just took him a copy of one of them to approve.

What did he say?

"Uh...that's not the way we always did it." (He's from another division of the company that bought us.)

So, I asked, "How did you always do it?" (I was thinking, "Why the hell didn't you tell me how you used to do it ahead of time?)

So, he pulls out a form that's scribbled on and said, "It's easier to read if you just handwrite it than an Excel spreadsheet is." (No, he's not extremely computer literate.)

So, tomorrow, I have to redo all that work by hand.

Why couldn't he have told me this ahead of time?

Sigh...

And, he's a young guy. Maybe 34 or 35. He can't even use the excuse that he was raised in the dark ages!

Well, for the first time I might give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'd definitely ask him to please tell you how he wants things done in the future so you can work more effectively (or words to that effect). Then, at least, he should start telling you more.

I had a boss a couple of years ago I had to literally micro-manage to get any information from about how she wanted things done (or whether she wanted things done, sometimes). I know how frustrating it can be.

He's really a nice guy, so I'm not mad at him. I just had a horrible day and that was icing on the cake. I was soooo frustrated. :)

When they're nice it's much easier, isn't it?

Well, take some deep breaths, and go have a bubble bath or whatever works best to help you de-stress. : )

Myself, I like to go work in the garden or go on a big cleaning spree. Pity my fiancee keeps the house so clean, if I had more to clean up I might be less stressed! ; )

Yes, it is. It wouldn't have been bad if I hadn't had so many other things to do.

Usually, I write to relax. Today, I am soooo brain-dead.

A garden would be nice. Do you have a big garden?

Date: 2006-02-06 06:56 am (UTC)

Not too big. We're on about an eighth of an acre, but we have a small house so there's plenty of room left in the back yard. Most of it at the moment though is still lawn. Although we've been living here two years we still haven't quite managed to get things to the way we want them. But we're working on it. : )

Some of our plants seem to be doing some strange things, though. We have cyclamen, azaleas and pansies flowering at the moment--in the middle of summer, when by rights the cyclamens should be dormant, the azaleas should be growing leaves rather than flowers, and the pansies should be dead!

Obviously, our garden has little to no respect for the laws of nature. ;)

I'm sorry, I don't feel qualified to answer that because I'm STILL trying to work out how that could POSSIBLY be easier to read handwritten.

It might take a couple of days...

Yeah, that sucks.....

I bet you have very nice handwriting too. Too bad.

You should give that to me to transcribe by hand for him. Heh heh, that'll fix 'im. Poor penmanship compounded by too much time at the keyboard and not much time with actual pen and paper anymore. AND with a left handed smudge to it all. Mwahahahhahaha! Oh I left out the damage college did to my handwriting too. My penmanship is beautimuss.

Best not to ask me where I'd leave it for him either.

I'm mean huh? *unrepentant* };->

Yeah, sadly, I do have nice handwriting. Bleh.

Probably cause I'm almost old and had written by hand a LONG time before there were computers. :)

However, my daughter has beautiful handwriting...and can also type almost as fast as I can. So, maybe that's NOT it.

I'm not going to say where I want to leave it for him. :P

Yeah, I'm of *ahem* mature years myself.

I didn't get taught nice penmanship when I learned how to write, the focus was not on making it neat, so it isn't. It's a shame.

I bet *I* know where you'd leave it for Mr. Bonehead.

Erhmmm did I understand that correctly? He wants you to take the excel sheet with data that you just made, make an identical one, but write all the data in by hand????

"Uh...that's not the way we always did it."

Translation: "We fear change."

What an asshat. Sorry you had to burn a day on that. That's really lame. And yeah, if he wanted it done a certain way, he should have made that clear up front. *shakes head* Idiot...
