To get out of your writing in 2006?

While publication or an agent is an okay answer, is there anything else? Anything personal you hope to get out of your writing that doesn't involve the outside world?

I want to finish this bloody novel and kick it out the door. Amen.

I want to FINISH a novel, for once. I always seem to get hung up either 1/3 or 2/3 of the way into a novel and put it aside and don't come back to it. I want to get over both those hurdles with the current project.

And getting it sent out to agents is definitely part of that plan.

Usually what I personally want out of my writing is to get these goddamn characters to shut up.

Or at least to say something different, which usually actually works much better than the shutting up.

Well, my outside world goals are pretty big, since I'm about a month away from sending the novel out the door to a publisher. Once it's on its way, though, my plan is to jump into novel #2.

I think a lot of personal stuff will be wrapped up with that. If I can finish a decent draft by the end of the year, that'll mean my writing process has matured significantly since I started novel #1. Also since novel #2 isn't a sequel to novel #1, again, it'll be meaningful to me if I pull off something worthwhile because it'll mean on some level that I'm not just a one-novel person. Sure I've written a lot of shorts, but coming up with a whole new novel is a different sort of challenge.

And I suppose if I get rejected on novel #1 that'll be a big test of my commitment to writing. I'd rather just sell it, though (-:

Seeing your output sickens me over my own lackluster approach to writing. Course sitting here at a major publisher seeing all the new books everyday doesn't help.

Perhaps I will delete/burn my manuscripts..

I'd like my writing and I to be working together, again, instead of having fistfights in back alleys ala 2005.

I want to finish what I'm working on, and have other people read it. Whether that includes being published, I don't know. But I want to have something I can show to other people and say, with pride, "I wrote that!"

A few stories that do something I've never done before.

My last novel was tough. Even laborious. I would like to *really* enjoy writing this next one. Good question, dude. What about you?

1. Finish one (a first draft at least).
2. Produce a first draft needing less fixing.
3. Stop writing in the same mistakes, I know better but I keep doing it.
4. Learn to like the revision process more than root canals. (it's a tie at the mo as to which I hate more).
5. Finish one. :-)

1) Finish Chronincles of Magic: Daughter of the Mystics, book one- first draft.
2) Edit. While editing, start working on the outline of book two.
3) Start rewriting book one. Continue working on outline of book two.
4) When close to finishing the draft, start editing, maybe start working on book two.

...I honestly don't know

1) if I'll finish all three
2) if I'll get to three drafts for each of the books
3) if I'll have the confidence to try getting anything published.

o.o

I seriously doubt the four things I listed will get done in 2006, but that's what I'm going to attempt to do for most of the year. o.o

I hope to become more confident in my writing and actually feel like I've accomplished something when I'm done with a story.

I write an average of 300 000 words a year, out of that I get one draft novel, part of a second novel, numerous short stories, deleted scenes, some fanfiction and a lot of fun, satisfaction and contentment in sharing my writing with family and friends. Plus I meet my personal goals and that is always up-lifting.

What do I want out of my writing in '06? Hmmmm...

Well, I want to see my writing grow, evolve and mature. I want to finish some pieces and not think that they are total drek. And I want to work up the courage to actually start submitting pieces.

I want my works to grow and to mature and I want to grow as a writer this year...
