Wouldn't it be great to go and meet some of the LJ writers on our friends' lists?

Yes, it would be great. I am dying to meet the OWW girls(i.e. Holly, Jodi, Rae, and Brit) Oh and you of course. hehehhee. I think it would be fun to sit around and geek about writing.

I'm sure they're all much more fun than I am. They're all so young...and critique so much.

I'm boring. I just sit and write and write and write...

conferences I recommend

Particularly if you write speculative fiction.

The Surrey International Writers Conference (http://www.siwc.ca/)

ArmadilloCon (http://www.fact.org/dillo/d27/) has an all day writers workshop to kick off the con.

Writers Weekend (It's critique based, from) sponsors several events during the year.

Could you leave a new link to Writers Weekend? The current link doesn't work. Thanks!

Thank you sooo much for the recommendations. I do write speculative fiction, so that's perfect!

One of the Armadillo Con writers workshops coordinators keeps a Live Journal: [livejournal.com profile] zainybrain. She posts about her experiences in pitching screenplays, plus other writerly doings.

I've been to the workshop at Dillo Con twice. It's worth the time, for the smart feedback from pro teachers and your fellow writers, since you submit 5k words in advance and then discuss one another's work throughout the day.

[livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine usually participates in the Con itself and knows all the usual suspects there.

Cool. Thanks.

That sounds like it's a great con to attend. I'm going to put that on my priority list!

If you're interested, check my Memories for my reports from the con in 2004 and 2005.

What I would love to do ... is attend one of Donald Maass's seminars (http://www.free-expressions.com/success.htm). Actually, depending on finances, either the one in DC or Houston would be possible. But, I would *love* to take one the intensive courses. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening this year... but maybe next!!

The September intensive session could be perfect timing, if I meet my writing goals for this year.

Ooooh, I've wanted to go to one of the Donald Maass seminars ever since I read Writing the Breakout Novel and Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook back in...fall of 2004, I think it was.

I wish they had the 2006 schedule up, but when I checked earlier, they didn't yet.

Ever thought about BEA? (Book Expo America) Great place to make publishing contacts. I think this year it's in DC, though usually it's in NY or LA.

From: [identity profile] queenoftheskies.livejournal.com
I've considered it, but I believe last time I checked, the only attendees admitted were folks in the publishing industry, not writers.

I'd love to find any one of those things IN Connecticut IN a town that I've actually heard of, or Massachusettes, or something. Not in Dallas, not in...Colorado. NEARBY.

...End rant.

That's something I want to do, too. I don't know what the chances are of me going to one that isn't very close by, though. I haven't had my license long enough that my parents would let me drive out of state. So far I've only driven to the town that my school is in one time by myself. -_- I really, really want to go to one, though.

I'd be willing to bet that there are some in your area. I think Writer's Digest lists them sometimes. If you Google writers conferences, you might find some.

I've searched for some in Google but haven't really found any. And Writer's Digest does list them, but they're usually not for Connecticut. -_-

Thanks for the link.

Wouldn't it be great to meet a bunch of folks at one of these conferences? I'd love to get the chance to learn and hobnob with other writers both!

Hey You... I would LOVE to attend some writer's conferences and workshops this year. If we can find something in the local area, let's attend!!! I'd love to finally get to meet you and what a better setting???

Want to???

Oh, I'd LOVE to. That would be wonderful. And it would be nice to meet at last...after...what...five years of knowing each other online? (Has it really been that long? I think it has.)

Yes. Definitely yes.

Well then, let's look at finding a conference to attend and do it!!!

And yeah, it really has been almost 5 years or so. Time flies, huh? But it's been nothing short of terrific getting to know you and watching you grow and evolve, Miss J.

Quill's 5 year anniversary is this year... Time most definitely flies.

Thanks. It's been great watching you grow, too, and getting to know you as a friend. I count myself very luck in that respect.

Quill's 5 year anniversary is this year...

So, any special celebrations planned?

Nothing as of yet, but we still have a few months. Y'never know. :-)
