Writing Goals for 2006
Jan. 1st, 2006 02:45 pmNO...I am NOT crazy. I am going to be ambitious and optomistic this year.
(But, yes, you can all laugh at me anyway. LOL)
Because I am kind, I will put these behind a cut.
1. Daily Writing and Word Counts - Write 1,000,000 words for 2006. That translates to approximately 83,334/month
2. Complete a Novel Every Other Month - That would give me six new novels completed in 2006. I’d tentatively like to complete the following:
Xanali (which might end up as Out of the Darkness and Xanali - if so, they only count as one for the year)
Guardian Force
Yami No Tenshi
Cataclysm
Pawns of Destiny
The Dawning of the Dark
If I can work in anything else:
The Spellsingers
Dumps, Dives & Divas
Gateway to Eternity
Too many projects, not enough time.
3. Revise a Novel Every Other Month - That would give me six revised novels in 2006. I actually hope to revise more than that, but, it’s a start. I’d tentatively like to revise the following:
Xanali (which could become Out of the Darkness and Xanali, but would only count as one)
Wildfire
Guardian Force
Ancient Secrets (which will end up two books instead of one because of its length - haven’t split it between two names, though)
The Dawning of the Dark
Pawns of Destiny
If I can work in anything else:
Yami No Tenshi
Cataclysm
The Dawning of the Dark
4. Writing Synopses - for the following projects:
Xanali (already written if I keep Xanali as one book - needs to be revised)
Wildfire (already have screenplay treatment written and can probably revise it for novelized version)
Guardian Force
Ancient Secrets
Dawn of Destiny
Yami No Tenshi
Cataclysm
Pawns of Destiny
The Dawning of the Dark
The Spellsingers
Dumps, Dives & Divas
Gateway to Eternity
5. Query - Woo-hoo! - hopefully, this will be the year for it. I’d like to query the following projects:
Xanali
Wildfire
Pawns of Destiny
The Dawning of the Dark
Ancient Secrets
Two of these projects are in my Celestial Warriors series, but at different beginning points. One is the beginning of the warriors (Xanali) and the other (Ancient Secrets) is the beginning of trouble on present day Earth, when alien warriors that are living on Earth in secret have to come out of hiding to protect the planet. They can stand alone. Either would give me an opening to present the series.
The other three novels are outside my main series. Wildfire has one prequel and one sequel, but stands alone. It was once a screenplay entitled Atonement. Pawns of Destiny is totally stand alone (at this point...please whatever deity there is...DON’T LET IT BECOME A SERIES!!!). The Dawning of the Dark is the first book in a series of stand alone novels.
6. Write a new screenplay - it doesn’t have a name yet, but it has a complete treatment in great detail
7. Finish some short stories - I don’t know why, cause I’m not sure I have anything submittable, but it’s something I want to do. Specifically, the following:
Angels of the Season - which is VERY close
Truth or Consequences
Glass Angel
The Day After Rapture
Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory - okay, so this one will probably end up novella length - might have a chance of publication
8. Submit Short Stories - okay, so I thought of a couple that might have a snowball’s chance in hell:
Split Milk - needs one more revision, perhaps
Rednecks - needs one more revision
Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory
9. Do one critique per month in each of the four critique groups/lists I belong to - I’d like to do more, but I think one each won’t stress me as much
Hmm...I think that's enough. I'll alter them to fit as I go through the year. But, if I can stay focused and don't have any HUGE disasters, I think I can hit them all.

Date: 2006-01-03 05:40 am (UTC)Last year was a difficult year for me. Really hard. But, I'm hoping that this year won't be so bad, and I can get a few more words done.

Sheesh, and after I was just going over the title with you the other night. :)
You must have Disney ducks on the brain?

Date: 2006-01-03 05:42 am (UTC)I'm trying to take everything one step at a time.
But, I have so many stories in my brain that it takes massive goals just to get the ball rolling. :)

Date: 2006-01-03 05:45 am (UTC)So, right now, when things are going okay (I say that before I go back to work tomorrow), I'm trying to get a few extra words in and a few extra plans made, so that, when I fall down, I won't get discouraged. I know it'll happen. I know there will be days I won't be able to write. But, I'm trying to prepare for them now...just in case.
Thanks. I hope I hit them. I'm going to try really hard. I really, really want to make it as a writer. I really do.

Date: 2006-01-03 05:52 am (UTC)Exactly. And yeah, we're definitely going to have our down days. They're out there, but as long as we don't give them more power than necessary, they can't control us.
I have no doubts that you'll make it as a writer when you let yourself, Miss J. You're incredibly talented, driven and passionate... and that is a potent and unstoppable combination.
