Very, Very Most Productive Day
Oct. 30th, 2005 08:45 pmI got up early this morning and went over to Millie's for breakfast, so I could sit and work on my plot points for Xanali some more. I really wanted to get them finished today, so I'd have tomorrow to look over them and then plan what to write on Tuesday when NaNoWriMo starts.
I got 21 more plot points written during breakfast. I'm sure I must have looked funny taking a bite of breakfast and then scribbling frantically in my notebook, taking another bite of breakfast, then scribbling frantically in my notebook. :)
Anyway, when it started getting crowded, as it's prone to do on Sundays, I came home and told kids I was going to work out at my desk in the living room, so everyone had to hold down the noise.
I got 24 more done before noon, and I was DONE!!! HOORAY!!!!
After that, I even got them typed into the computer throughout the day. HOORAY!
I ended up with 125 plot points in all. So, if I estimate the novel will be around 125,000 words, that would average about 1,000 words per plot point. Yes, I know it won't end up that way. Some will have several hundred words and some several thousand, but I like the average anyway. It gives me the feeling that the story is adequately covered.
I think I actually liked the pacing too. Plotting this way gave me a good feel for it, I think. I like seeing that ahead of time.
A couple of people asked me what my plot points are, how I came up with them, and how I'm using them. I'll post about the method I used to plot tomorrow. I post better in the morning when my brain is still awake. :)
I really enjoyed plotting this novel, actually, and if this method works, I'm going to try to do this for all other novels I write. It has left me feeling really good about my story and really enthralled with the novel I'm getting ready to write. It's also left me feeling like I have a handle on it and like I am in control and not writing fate.
I was gone a lot of the afternoon and part of the evening, but managed to crunch in a few words on a novel tonight. Only one more day for it, and then I'll work exclusively on Xanali for one month.

Date: 2005-10-31 01:35 pm (UTC)Good luck with your Nano! I'm looking forward to mine. As I commented here in answer to your Nano questions, I'm aiming for 100k this year. The most I've ever written on one thing is 50k for last year's Nano, so I'm nervous and excited about it. Your prolific word counts are certainly an inspiration. :)
