As I was driving home from taking the kids to their Academic Decathlon meeting this morning, I drove through this really pretty side street and saw this man in his late-fifties, perhaps, taking a walk. He was holding a sack, so I thought he was walking home from the grocery or something.
But, as I watched, he was picking up litter on this street. I couldn't believe it! He had a bag full. I thought that was so cool and so easy to do for people who walk on a regular basis.
I'd honestly never thought about it, but now that I've seen it, I'm going to try to do it too.
Inspiration for the day.

Date: 2004-10-31 02:01 am (UTC)I haven't seen anyone in the US doing anything of the sort. In fact, what I usually see is people here throwing trash out of their car windows, which I find horrifying. Or still-lit cigarettes...I'm always tempted to pick those up and "return" them to the person who dropped them, but I'm afraid of getting shot living down here.
If everyone simply picked up after themselves, nobody would have to pick up after anyone else. Strange concept, I know...*sigh*...
