A TV show called Ghost Whisperer?

I tuned in about 30 minutes ago and I'm totally wrapped up in this show. I'm sorry I missed the beginning of it. I wondered if it was good all the time. I might have to start watching.

Seven more minutes of it and then I'm off to bed.

Nope, because it's a show that was created to cash in on the success of NBC's Medium and I'm loyal to that show. (The premises are extremely similiar.) ^_~

I don't watch a lot of TV, and even less regular TV. I'd heard commercials for Threshold last week and was intrigued and considered watching it tonight...until I got too tired. So, that's why I was on CBS and happened to see Ghost Whisperer. I'll have to check out Medium, too.

I ended up staying up to watch it and I liked the episode I watched and wished I'd watched from the beginning.

Looks like it has LOTS of potential (if they don't blow it) to me!

Since I am a professional medium, I have watched "Medium" on NBC, which...I don't really care for at all. The storylines are actually not bad...I just can't stand Patricia Arquette (I'm still stunned that they gave her an Emmy this year.) Although I certainly cannot speak for every medium, since all are different and get their messages in different ways, I really don't "buy" the way that the main character on "Medium" gets her info. It certainly doesn't work that way for me, or for many, many people I talk to. Having said that, it IS entertainment, and if people want to watch for that reason, who am I to stop them? One plus to me as a Spiritualist is that is does at least acknowledge that people like me do exist, and that we lead normal lives. We're not crazy wackos trying to make a buck at the expense of other people, and we're not devil worshipers trying to overthrow God's agenda on earth (believe me, I've heard all of this.) At least it opens up a constructive dialogue about the possibilities of this world and the next, and for me, that's a positive thing.

I have not yet seen "Ghost Whisperer." I keep forgetting to tape it--for me, they couldn't have picked a worse night to air it. I am a little apprehensive--Jennifer Love Hewitt?! (again, NOT a favorite actress of mine)--and I have heard some not-so-flattering inside scoop about the persons behind this show (professional gossip being what it is, you take all of this with a grain of salt). Still, I'd like to see it just so I can talk about it intelligently.

The best movie about mediums, hands down, from a medium's standpoint? "The Sixth Sense." Still Hollywood, but really, really close to how it really works. :-)

Just my two cents!

It doesn't even work that way for the real-life woman they based "Medium" on, who serves as a consultant! But the way it works for her (she's been on talk shows and explained it), can't exactly be captured on film to make for good drama. ;)

Yes, I know! I'm familiar with Alison DuBois' work, and I think it's kinda funny. But because it's a show, for entertainment purposes, you have to frame the messages in a visual way that the audience will be able to understand. So yeah, I understand WHY it has to be that way--like you said, to make good drama. I just don't like the show that much. :-)

And I'm sure every professional criticizes the way their profession is portrayed on movies or TV. It kind of goes with the territory, I think. :-)

Of course, TV and movies just seem to seek to sensationalize everything and make it larger than life.

In reality, people might like to see how it really is for once, you know?

I, for one, am looking forward to reading your book to get insight.

I found "Ghost Whisperer" to be a very touching show just in the one episode I watched. I don't know how realistic it is, of course, but I liked the involvement between characters and the backstory involved.

Medium is still my all-time favorite but Ghost Whisperer is okay.

Last week's episodewas extremely sad because it involved a child. I was a blubbering idiot through the whole thing. :)

I found this week's episode of "Ghost Whisperer" to be emotional. Perhaps that's what attracted me to the show.

I'm not much of a fan of Medium. Don't care for the lead character and the chemistry between her and the husband sucks. When he gets all pissy about her being a "freak" I just want to smack him. And when she takes all of the abuse he's handing out I want to smack her. And there aren't enough ghosts.

I have been watching Ghost Whisperer. Hate the title. Don't much care for Jennifer Love Hewitt -- I am distracted by her eyelashes (they've got to be fake, but they're out of place on her character) and her clothes (which seem to be updated version of housewife dresses of the 50s/60s.) But there are ghosts aplenty in this one, so the show has kept my interest so far.

Yes, yes, yes! I couldn't agree more! :-)

I agree about the character's clothes. I was noticing that myself.

I did enjoy the episode I just saw and I enjoyed the glipmse at the main character's backstory.

I watched Medium this summer while CSI: Miami was in reruns and really got into it. I like Patricia Arquette. Actually, I like the whole family, going all the way back to grandpa Charley Weaver. So now, I'm stuck between Medium and CSI: Miami. And I love the family dynamic on the show, that at least one of the daughters has shown psychic ability, and so on. And I've long been a fan of Miquel Sandoval who's playing the DA.

I didn't bother trying Ghost Whisperer because it sounded too similar to Medium and I don't like Jennifer Love Hewitt. The previews looked silly, too.

I tried Threshold for the first time last night, not sure if I like it yet, tho it has possibilities. I missed the first couple due to Stargate and last week, a Mets game. I do like Invasion a lot. So far, of the new fall shows, that's my favorite. Nice and creepy and not revealing too much too soon.

I only watched about 5 minutes of one episode. It confirmed my dislike of Jennifer Love Hewitt. I think the only thing I have ever liked her in was that movie where she and Sigourney Weaver are con-artists, heartbreakers.

You know, I've never really watched stuff she was in, so I didn't have an existing prejudice already.

So, I guess I'll give it a chance and see whether it ends up being decent or not.

I only get to watch TV occasionally, and I watch Medium. One reason I like it is that Alison Du Bois is not portrayed as being super glamorous, but real. Her marriage has its ups and downs, there are disagreements, and her husband doesn't always understand what she's going through. I don't know about how realistic the portrayal of how she sees her images are, apparently not very realistic, but it works for me. I would like to know more about the real Alison Du Bois.

I have never seen Ghost Whisperer. I would like to see it, but don't really have time right now. The same for Threshold. Hopefully life will change soon and give me more free time.

Didn't even know about it until you mentioned it. But then I saw a commercial and saw Jennifer Love Hewitt... *drool*
