What, You Say...
Oct. 6th, 2005 07:15 amWord count in the morning?
Yes, because I was too wiped out to post it last night.
Didn't hit my goal, but I'll catch up by the weekend.
Still want to finish Dawn of Destiny this weekend. I've upped my total expected word count again...just because.
I don't think I'll finish in 5,000 words, so upping it to 150,000, so I have 10,000 words to play with is much more reasonable.
I still have to finish writing Robbie's rescue and Jeremy's rescue and the connection between Thai and Jeremy. I still have to establish the growing jealousy in Calla's mom. I still have to write the Halloween shindig, the kids getting nabbed, and the final battle.
Then, I think I'm done. I'm sure odds and ends will come up. Some, I might address in the rough draft. Some I'll probably wait to tackle in rewrite/revising.
I'd love to be able to start work on Gateway to Eternity by Monday. It already has almost 100,000 words on it, as I recall, so I can probably finish it up by the end of the month, too. The nice thing about it is that, even though it's the second book in this trilogy, it has a completely different texture, a different feel to it. Much more mystic and magical, which is what I need at this point in the trilogy, before cutting back to the final confrontation in the third book.
I'd really like to get these two finished before I tackle Xanali during NaNoWriMo. IF I manage to finish it in one month, like planned, I haven't decided what I'll do for December yet.
Part of me says to finish the third book in the series, while another part of me says I should move on to complete Yami No Tenshi, which is about half finished, and then Cataclysm, which hasn't much work done on it at all. Maybe 25,000 words.
Technically, since the three trilogies take place at the same time, but in different locations, with different characters and events, I probably should have written the first book in each series, then the second, and so on.
But...the words just kind of came out this way. Have to go with the flow, I guess.
Sheesh, I'm long-winded this morning. Good thing most of my progress reports are done at night when I'm too tired to "talk" for long...though it is nice to put the writerly ramblings down where I can see them.

Date: 2005-10-06 06:39 pm (UTC)I like plans. I am a very goal-oriented person. Very. It makes me feel good to have a path to take, even if I make deviations along the way.
Actually, even though none of the stuff I've just written and am writing now is really ready for human eyes, I think I might have a couple of things soon that I'd really love opinions on/help with. :)
I have a short story (based on a novel I wrote that was based on a screenplay I wrote) that might be finished this weekend. I need to find out if it's the kind of things folks would read.
And, I have my synopsis for Xanali that I want to revise and polish up and get opinions on. It's only about three pages, not very long at all. I want to see if it makes sense and get reactions to the story.
And, last, but not least, I do intend to write Xanali all in one month, for NaNoWriMo. And, I will grovel and plead and beg for opinions on it, because I'm coming at it from a different approach and I think I might be able to make it marketable faster than my other novels.
It takes place in the same universe, but six thousand years in the past. It explains some of the backstory, and since it's a stand-alone novel, I'm wondering if it might be the best place to start an attempt at marketing, even though that wasn't my original choice of a place to start. I wanted to introduce the current story and then, if I had people interested, bring in the historical stories later.
However, Ancient Secrests is probably going to end up two books, or a little long, even if I cut it, so I think I need a draw into the universe first. I need to have contacts before I try to sell it and the novels that follow.
I think.
I think a lot.
Who knows what the right answer is? :)
I would so dearly LOVE to read more of Djinn this weekend!!! Please?

Date: 2005-10-09 03:12 pm (UTC)Ooooh, thank you. You're so sweet and kind.
I need to polish up the Xanali synopsis, and then I'd love to get an opinion on it.
And, if I get the novel finished during November, like planned, I hope I can edit during the time I have off for the holidays in December. I'd love to get opinions on it if it turns out well. (If not, back to the drawing board.) I've been doing some more detailed plotting on it and hope that makes it easier to write.
Of course...I'll try to remove the typos today, but, question: how much did I send you the first time? Can't remember....
You sent Chapter 1. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read more!!! Please? Pretty please? Hint! Hint!
As for all your planning...it's been a great help to me to see how you do things, so *please* keep posting about it!
Oh, thank you. I'm glad it's helped. I'm trying some new variations out right now to try to make the writing easier and faster.
Glad to hear the fire's out, btw.....
Me too! It was really freaky!

Date: 2005-10-10 01:50 am (UTC)Thank you! Thank you! I appreciate it greatly!!!
And, of course, anything else you might need an opinion on...anytime. Honest.
That is so sweet of you. Thank you!
As for Djinn....I didn't get a chance to look at typos, but I'll try to do that tomorrow and stick a couple of chapters in your inbox.
I'd love to read more!!! Thank you!
And, please let me know how the new plot mapping ideas go!
You know, I'm trying to write from scratch now, starting with a synopsis and mapping/plot points, instead of writing first and then going back to start plotting.
I've written a synopsis for Xanali and a new idea both so far. And, I've started more detailed plotting for Xanali, and I can't wait to see how it works.
I hope it'll make things much more manageable.
