Safe and Sound
Oct. 5th, 2005 09:58 pmThe fire is out!!!
HOORAY!!!
HOORAY for wonderful firefighters!!! We have the best!
I just checked things out on my way home from my youngest son's high school Back to School Night and I couldn't see how much of the area was scorched, but the fire is out and everything is quiet.
HOORAY...again!
All the sprinklers along the roadside were running and, when the water mixes with the charred matter...OMG...the smell is soooo strong. I imagine that will hang around for a while.
I'm assuming that a small enough area was covered that the wildlife could flee...at least I hope so. I'll get a better look at it all tomorrow afternoon on my way home from work.
Back to School Night was great. My youngest son is doing great and involved in so many things...ROTC, concert band, Academic Decathlon. And, now, he's talking about joining the golf team! As long as he can handle it and keep up his grades, I'm supportive. I just want to make sure he gets enough rest, too. But, I think the group activities are wonderful for him.
I wrote. Maybe 1,000 words. Not my normal 2,000. But, I am soooo brain dead from getting home late that I'll post my stats tomorrow. I'm too tired to open Word and count them now. :)
Good night, LJer's. Sleep well.

Date: 2005-10-09 03:46 pm (UTC)Yeah, it was a wonderful evening and things must be getting somewhat less stressful, cause I actually looked forward to going. Over the past few years, I've tried to get out of things and just go home after work.
I enjoyed this, though. Quite a bit. So, there must be hope that I'll return to my old self again, which pleases me to no end.
My youngest son has straight A's so far. I am soooo proud of him.
How is all with you?

Date: 2005-10-09 03:48 pm (UTC)I've been around much larger fires, but none this close before. And none in such a wooded, populated by wildlife area.
