My woods are on fire!!!

My beautiful, beautiful woods!!!

Woods are hard to find in the LA area. I don't want them to burn. :(

The entire area to the north and east of me is wooded in and around housing tracts for a number of miles. There are also two universities with agricultural programs that own a large amount of wooded land a little past that. About a mile to the north is a largely vacant/wooded area.

The fire is about a mile (maybe less) to the northeast of me. Maybe half a mile. It's not very far. It butts up to some beautiful houes.

Someone must've been hurt because there was an ambulance, too.

I saw a flaming tree on my way home. An enormous tree with the top all in flames. It looked like a huge torch. It was awful.

The trees and brush along the walking paths behind it were burning too. :(

One fire engine was on the scene. Another on the way. They didn't even have the road closed!!!

I don't want the woods to burn. :(

I'm sorry your woods are on fire. I hope you don't burn. Stay safe.

There's so little nature and wildlife here that I hate to see it destroyed.

I think we're safe here.

Aw man. The fires out that way are pretty bad so far this season. Be careful.

Fires are awful, and October always seems the worst for it.

We've never had anything burn in the over five years I've lived in this area.

The smoke is awful. My eyes are burning something fierce.

But it's *relatively* small (not quite 1000 acres) and already 85% contained, supposedly. Thank heavens. Because with these winds today.... :(

Actually, the one over here is probably one that didn't even make the news. VERY small, but the area is solid trees and brush around the walking trails. AND, right beside a tract of expensive homes. I mean RIGHT beside. It might have even started in the neighborhood and spread to the woods.

I just hope the homes don't go up.

The smoke is nasty. Everything smells like smoke now.

Oh, yes. It took a couple of days for the smoky smell to clear out here, too. At least the Santa Anas should blow it this way.

As for the property, well, wow. After the big one the year before last, I was thoroughly impressed with how well the firefighters protect property. It's really astonishing how few homes they lose by comparison with how many acres get burned. I will hope it goes that way for you all in that area. And that the woods aren't gone completely.

The firefighters in this area were amazing and there were two engine companies on the scene really fast. Thankfully, they got it put our before there was damage to any homes and before it had spread very far.

Definitely lucky with this one.

Stay safe! Don't play hero if something should make you leave and try to stay and "save your home". Best wishes! (I've followed your posts for a while)

OH NO!!!!!!!

I'm glad it has no danger of coming to your house but I know how you feel...I LOVE the woods and hope to one day have a house surrounded by them...I'd be upset to think of all the nature burning up.

There's so little nature in this area that I couldn't stand the thought of it being destroyed.

I'm from Tennessee, originally, so it makes me feel kind of at home around here. Not that I'm homesick, but since I grew up around nature, I have an affinity for it, I guess.

where in LA are you???
I'm from San Diego, and always worry about So CA in fire season. People out here(oklahoma) just don't get it.

I'm in the San Gabriel Valley.

How long since you lived in San Diego?

I moved in summer of 2001. four years. *sigh* I miss it but I don't if you know what I mean.

The fires in..'03 was it? burned out my old stomping grounds in East County. I watched the news and cried.

Reading this hurt, even thought I knew from your later post that it got put out safely. I'm so glad they got it under control and that you're safe. Hope the bunnies and birds got out okay.

It's hard to watch something like this happen and know it's affecting the area on so many levels. People often forget the damage that a fire causes to anything other than humans.

But, knowing the other kinds of life living here...it was hard not to worry.

Thankfully, everything seems to be good now. :)

I am very thankful. It could have been tragic.
