Dec. 24th, 2006
However, this will hopefully be a short post for I am very tired and in need of sleep.
This was a great Christmas Eve.
I very much enjoyed the movies Sci Fi Channel showed today. Youngest son watched many of them with me. He'd never seen them and enjoyed watching.
Oldest son fixed chicken skewers and rice for dinner. Very yummy.
I worked on screenplay editing today. It was very hard work.
What made it difficult is that the screenplay I was working on was old. I probably wrote it almost FIVE years ago.
I could hardly imagine how much my writing has grown and improved since then.
What was really astounding was that I'd gotten some great feedback on the jokes and the story itself. (It's a dark comedy.) But, several folks had told me that the main character was lacking. They couldn't feel sympathy for him at the beginning of the script.
Now, he's not supposed to be totally likeable at the beginning, but I wanted it to be evident that he wasn't a BAD guy and that he was redeemable. (Think of Bruce in Bruce Almighty. Someone who had a selfish streak and needed to learn a lesson. Only this character had some baggage and was bitter, too.)
Anyway, at this point, I'm trying to determine how much to change the actual plot. From 1/3 of the way through forward, mostly I've discovered that it needs tightening and different word choices in spots, but doesn't suck totally.
However, I must determine whether to save the opening by rewriting it or whether to change it completely.
I'm quite thrilled to discover that my writing has changed this much, but rather disappointed that this screenplay is going to require so much work.
However, I should have the first run-through finished by tomorrow and then I shall either edit another screenplay or switch back to novels for Christmas. :)
25 minutes to go!
