Last Sunday night, I hit my hand on the corner of the vanity in the bathroom. Hard enough to raise a goose egg and render it useless for the night. I put ice on it and slept with it on a bean bag pillow all night.

For at least half the week, I couldn't pick up anything much with my thumb and forefinger because my forefinger was having trouble. Had a hard time mousing, too.

The bump started going down some, but never went away.

I thought it was doing better by Thursday, but on Friday, there was a sudden turn-around. Now, it hurts like hell again, it wakes me up all night when I sleep, and the bump is getting bigger again. I seem to hit it on everything and it really, really hurts.

I can't figure out why it's going in reverse now, when it seemed to be on the road to recovery before.

Go to a doctor. You might have a clot or something. When things get worse instead of better, it's usually a warning.

or perhaps a hairline fracture. the initial swelling went down but now as the bone moves it's swelling again?

definitely, get thyself to the doctor "post haste!"

I have to agree, I think it sounds like a hairline fracture. Hie thee to a doctor.

If you've been banging it on everything, it may just need some more time to heal. Have you kept icing it? Maybe you should try wrapping it with some padding between your hand and the bandage so if you do keep banging it, at least the padding can absorb the blow.

It's possible that there is a hairline fracture. Is there a lot of discoloration? I'm not a doctor, but it's possible that it's just a really deep bone bruise and the continued banging of it isn't allowing it to heal up properly.

Take care of that thing, Miss J.

*OW* It hurts just thinking about it. As the other say...if the swelling doesn't go down you may have fractured something...Just watch it carefully.

: said the massage therapist:

You really need to get it checked out. It could be a fracture or a clot--not things you want to fool around with. I'm sending you love and healing!

As has already been said by lots of people, you ought to go see a doctor. I hope it gets better soon :)

Maybe you aggravated the injury again, just through simple use. Has the idiot at your company gotten your insurance straightened out yet, so you can go to the doctor? Too bad it didn't happen on company time--workman's comp!

It does sound like "go to the doctor time". I did something stupid to my shoulder a few years ago and it took forever to heal up because I kept re-injuring it doing normal day to day stuff. The doctor was no help, as his only advice was stop using it until it gets better, but on the other hand you want to make sure, as everyone else has said, that you don't have a clot in there.
