No, there are no Metformin samples at the doctor's office. The nurse says that it's not something they get samples of. Perhaps (and this is just my own guess) because it's such a staple in the treatment of diabetes, infertility and so many other conditions that the drug companies know they don't need to provide samples to convince the doctor's to prescribe.

Half the people I know seem to be on Metformin for one reason or another. :)

And, no, there's no higher up I can go to. This woman is from Corporate in Connecticut, and is even higher up than the people here in Santa Ana who are running us.

Having said that, I might have some kind of solution...BUT, not until next Wednesday, which, of course, does me no good.
The plant manager, who is an EXTREMELY good guy, is on vacation until then. I figure if I told him the situation, he'd see if anything could be done.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm complaining too much and being unreasonable, but I have to admit that my old doctor did nothing but SCARE THE CRAP out of me. It didn't matter if my numbers were good. She'd still rant and rave at me and tell me she HAD to do that to make sure her patients STAYED good.

Now, the thought of no meds makes me feel like something awful will happen to me in the meantime. I'm more afraid of sudden withdrawal than the conditions, actually.

But, I have a number for Blue Shield, thanks for the Pharmacy, so I'm going to at least have a place to call to see whether there really is coverage or not, instead of taking someone's word for it.

Maybe that's an improvement. :)

Just a thought to tide you over until the whole insurance thing is fixed.

Most pharmacies will fill part of a prescription, especially if you have to pay cash for it. I would talk to the pharmacy and ask them to fill five or seven days worth of the meds, just to get you by. It should be a heck of a lot less than $100 and the insurance should still reimburse you later.

At least that way you'll have the meds you need and not have to lay out a ton of cash. It's an option anyway.

I second this idea. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

There's probably a help hotline in your area. It might be 411; if not, you should be able to find it in the phonebook. If that fails, call a library and ask.

Nope, you aren't being unreasonable. Diabetes is nothing to mess around with and you are being responsible by taking care of yourself. I hadn't thought about it being such a common drug. I never could get samples of my Anaspaz when I took it because it was so widespread.

I don't know what pharmacy you use, but shop around if your other options don't pan out. Walgreens even puts pricing online.

Too bad the lady is in CT. She's breaking a couple of CA laws as it is. *grrr*
