As Anticipated...
Aug. 31st, 2005 05:40 pmThe news I received when I drove all the way down to Santa Ana to speak with the people who just purchased the company, was very bad.
On the other hand, I guess it's not the end of the world. :)

Date: 2005-09-01 01:40 am (UTC)I know you have a lot to think about and decisions to make. The only suggestion I have for the short term is to think about whether the cut in pay is better for now than unemployment. Having some money come in while you look for another job is probably better than no money, especially if you get your health benefits back.
Good luck.

Date: 2005-09-01 02:01 am (UTC)The salary they offered me is definitely better than unemployment, which is a big part of my decision.
The insurance, sadly, is kind of expensive, but I do need it right now. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if they'll up the salary enough to cover the insurance. That would make things a little easier.

Date: 2005-09-01 12:43 pm (UTC)We all know that employed candidates always look better to companies because they think they are 'stealing talent', or some ridiculousness...

Date: 2005-09-01 04:27 am (UTC)I think that, even when things are rough, they're not as bad as what I went through when I was married and pregnant with my youngest son. My husband got himself fired, refused to work, and we ended up on welfare because I couldn't work at that point.
So, I can remember when things were worse, remember that I got out of them, even though it took a very long while, and know that, if I have patience, all of this will be worth it, too. :)

Date: 2005-09-01 04:30 am (UTC)I don't know if they do or not. I honestly am not sure if they really had a job or if they made one for me because I was so positive and helpful to them during the summer.
So, I do appreciate their efforts. They could have just told me there was no job for me.

Date: 2005-09-01 04:33 am (UTC)The main problem with the decrease, I guess, is the college money for my kids. I don't want them to have to drop out and work. My oldest son has an almost perfect average (one B and the rest A's) and hopes to get into Berkley to study Quantum Physics. So, we're going to see if the lower salary will make us elegible for any type of financial aid now.
I don't know if the job is easier. Possibly. Less stress, definitely, which would be a welcome change. I'm just trying to make sure that I'm not going to exchange job stress for how do I pay the bills stress. :)
Yes, I do think I'd enjoy it. The people are very pleasant to work with.

Date: 2005-09-01 04:36 am (UTC)I think hearing the salary number was more frightening to me than anything else, as my mind started racing to figure out ways to cover the bills, since southern California is so expensive.
The hardest thing is probably that I have two kids in college now. Well, my daughter had to sit out this first semester because I couldn't afford it yet. But, we'll see if the lower salary will help us get financial aid for their college now.
Everything will work out. I believe.
