The news I received when I drove all the way down to Santa Ana to speak with the people who just purchased the company, was very bad.

On the other hand, I guess it's not the end of the world. :)

Argh! What was it?

They decided to do away with accounting completely at the facility I worked at. All accounting work will be done at another southern California facility.

Will the new position be worth staying for? Or will you be looking for something else?

What a wild ride you've been on.

Friday? That's cruel. And that's a horrible hit to take. Could they transfer you to the other site?

No, sadly, they'd just hired a Controller for their other site a few months ago, and have no other accounting jobs open.

Wow, that is a big, big cut in pay. I am so sorry. :( I know you thought this was the end of the hard times.

I know you have a lot to think about and decisions to make. The only suggestion I have for the short term is to think about whether the cut in pay is better for now than unemployment. Having some money come in while you look for another job is probably better than no money, especially if you get your health benefits back.

Good luck.

I think everything will work out. Sometimes, it just takes a while. :)

The salary they offered me is definitely better than unemployment, which is a big part of my decision.

The insurance, sadly, is kind of expensive, but I do need it right now. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if they'll up the salary enough to cover the insurance. That would make things a little easier.

Maybe you could use it as a transitional job. Take it, but always be looking for something better.

We all know that employed candidates always look better to companies because they think they are 'stealing talent', or some ridiculousness...

Thank you. I'm sure everything will be fine in the end. It was just a surprise.

I think that, even when things are rough, they're not as bad as what I went through when I was married and pregnant with my youngest son. My husband got himself fired, refused to work, and we ended up on welfare because I couldn't work at that point.

So, I can remember when things were worse, remember that I got out of them, even though it took a very long while, and know that, if I have patience, all of this will be worth it, too. :)

Ugly and getting uglier as each day goes by. I took a mental health day last Friday just to be able to face this week. May have a good lead on a job, due to the old "Who You Know" issue, but we'll see. ;-)

Thank you. I try really, really hard to stay positive. :)

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear this. While it probably is best to keep the position until you can find something else I have to wonder if they seriously think you will stay for so much less money.

Yes, definitely better to say yes to this than have unemployment, that's for sure.

I don't know if they do or not. I honestly am not sure if they really had a job or if they made one for me because I was so positive and helpful to them during the summer.

So, I do appreciate their efforts. They could have just told me there was no job for me.

I'm so sorry the news wasn't what you had hoped for. $22,000 is a lot of money. Hopefully they can up it enough for the insurance. Is the job a lot easier and less stressful at least? Is there a possibility you might enjoy it?

I'm going to talk to them about the insurance tomorrow.

The main problem with the decrease, I guess, is the college money for my kids. I don't want them to have to drop out and work. My oldest son has an almost perfect average (one B and the rest A's) and hopes to get into Berkley to study Quantum Physics. So, we're going to see if the lower salary will make us elegible for any type of financial aid now.

I don't know if the job is easier. Possibly. Less stress, definitely, which would be a welcome change. I'm just trying to make sure that I'm not going to exchange job stress for how do I pay the bills stress. :)

Yes, I do think I'd enjoy it. The people are very pleasant to work with.

I'm gonna declare this a wash -- you have a job, but the pay isn't as good.

Can we still consider this an upswing relative to the past few months? And who knows... maybe that other ocntroller will leave for some other opportunity.

Having a job is a blessing. Unemployment would have been the pits. And, being in the same location, it's not a horrendous drive for me.

I think hearing the salary number was more frightening to me than anything else, as my mind started racing to figure out ways to cover the bills, since southern California is so expensive.

The hardest thing is probably that I have two kids in college now. Well, my daughter had to sit out this first semester because I couldn't afford it yet. But, we'll see if the lower salary will help us get financial aid for their college now.

Everything will work out. I believe.

Wow, you're screwed. No, really. :-)I guess it could be worse though, they could have offered you a job in New Orleans.
