As It Is Written...
Jul. 22nd, 2005 06:19 amApparently, my subconscious knows more than my conscious brain does (which I think I've determined on other occasions) because it has moved on to plot the next novel I'm going to work on and left conscious brain to write the remainder of Ancient Secrets.
Had another breakthrough or two on tying things together and revising once Ancient Secrets is done, so I think I must be almost there.
I'd noted earlier in the week that the fear had left me with this wonderful calm of knowing it was almost done and that anything could be fixed later.
I haven't had the time (due to work constraints and exhaustion) to really work HARD on it any day except Monday, which had a pleasing word count. But, I've worked steadily and honestly can't complain about my word counts the rest of the week.
I am feeling tired and in need of a rest to catch my second wind today, but I'm going to try to make a dent in my writing anyway and, then I'm going to really try to be ambitious this weekend and finish up.
I did promise to take the boys to the movies since my daughter is going with one of her friends. But I don't really feel like that's taking time away from my writing since movies generally inspire my imagination and I come away recharged and ready to write. :)
Boys want to see Fantastic Four, so that's probably what we'll do. I enjoyed it immensely when my sister,
devinharris, and I went last weekend, and would enjoy seeing it again. Over the next few weeks, I also want to see a couple of other movies, too.
But, I digress. This was about writing.
Next, I'm definitely going to tackle Beyond the Darkness as the plot started unravelling...oops, I mean revealing...itself to me on the way to work this morning. It definitely wants to be a novel instead of a novella. Oh, the glory of it all. I just wish it all ended up on paper like it is in my head where I can watch the movie and see the play-by-play.
Ah, well, that's one of the challenges of being a writer, isn't it. Getting those images down on paper as closely as we can to what we see in our imaginations. No matter how many layers and how many revision passes it takes.
Once I'm done with Beyond the Darkness, which is a prequel (several times removed) to Ancient Secrets, I'll move on into the three trilogies, and all will be good.
It's a beautiful morning here in southern California. And, it's Friday. And I get paid today. Life is good. :)

Date: 2005-07-22 07:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, the novel never quite gets out on the page the way you intended, does it? Along the way the visuals always change. But most of the time, it's for the better. Guess all writers have to just accept that revision is a horrible, necessary part of getting it right. Just wish I didn't hate going over it so lol.
good luck with your writing.......

Haven't seen Fantastic 4 yet... but I think I want to. If for nothing else, than simply for Jessica Alba... purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Date: 2005-07-24 12:31 am (UTC)You know, sadly, they didn't give Jessica Alba as big a roll as she deserved, but she had some really funny scenes (undressing when she was invisible and then starting to reappear in her undies before she'd learned to control the disappearing) and she was great trying to control her brother.
I enjoyed the movie. It was lots of fun.
