Plan B

You know what they say. Where there's a will, there's a way. Right?

So, I have a plan B.

I'm going to start selling off things on eBay until I have enough money to pay my rent. I have enough right now for food. I think I can talk the bank into giving me a couple weeks on my car payment. (At least I'm going to try.) Got Edison to give me a week's extension.

The big problem is rent.

I'm going to start small. Screenwriting software I won in a screenplay contest, books I have duplicates of, video games, DVDs, etc.

Then, I'll work up to my collectibles and electronics.

Lastly, if need be, my precious laptop. The only thing I absolutely REFUSE to sell is Mark's flute. And, of course, I want to try to hang onto my desktop computer. I can't live without her.

If I can cover rent, we'll be okay. Kids can stay in school.

I already have two agencies all over me, wanting me to get together with them tomorrow. I have like a million years of experience. I'm going to be able to find a job. The only problem is that it won't come in time to cover rent.

Deep breath.

Today was...difficult.

Thank you, cat.

If I cover rent, I'll stay. I have some job possibilities, but even if I get a job, the money won't come in time for rent.

No, the owners are not good about making arrangements with people. They're new. The old ones MIGHT have. I've lived here almost 5 years, so it's kinda sad.

But, that's what life does to us sometimes.

I hope you're feeling better today. :)

I wonder if you can make an advance part of your terms for either of those positions. Surely, either company would understand your situation, since you've been screwed out of three weeks of pay by the other company.

Good luck!

Sadly, in the financial world, people look down at you if you're temporarily broke.

Since I'm applying for Controller positions, it would only hurt my chances.

You know, in all my years of accounting, I've NEVER seen a company that would help a new employee out that way.

In fact, one job I had, I had my purse stolen and my paycheck and everything and the company did NOT even want to replace it. Isn't that crazy?

Do you have a retirement fund that will let you draw for emergencies?

What happens if you miss a rent payment - is there no way to make it up in the next few payments?

I'm not sure how the law in your country works, but a friend's mom was in a similar situation, and, legally, they could not kick her out of her home - she had a good few months in which to organise a new job and catch up the rent payments. Maybe you could explain the situation to your rental agency?

Wishing you good luck with the job hunting, and hopefully something will come through to help you out.

Thanks for the good wishes. I have some employment agencies to talk to, so I hope it won't take long to find a job. :)

Sadly, where I live, the law has given rights to the landlords. I understand why. In the past, when it took longer to evict tenants, many landlords found their properties damanged to the tune of thousands of dollars. So, in California, the law made it easier and FASTER to landlords to evict tenants.

My particular complex gives us three days to pay rent. Then, they give you a three day notice to pay or quit. After that, they can go straight to eviction procedings.

Whew! It all seems so fast, but I'm going to see what I can work out. :)

I'm so sorry, Janice. I really wish that I could just cut you a check and be done with it. Unfortunately student = poor. :-(

If there is any way that I can help you out, let me know, okay?

Hang in there. I do still believe that you are going to land on your feet.

I'll be sending many, many, many good thoughts your way.

Thank you, Phoenix. I appreciate all the good thoughts. :)

I think I'm going to try to talk to the new owners of the apartment complex today or tomorrow. I've lived here almost 5 years (next month). If it had been the previous owners, they MIGHT have given me an extra day or two. These people seem really AWFUL, so I'm nervous about it.

Well, here's hoping that your fears are unfounded. Sometimes the things we dread the most turn out to be okay in the end.

Lots of hugs and good mojo your way, Janice...

I second Rae. How can we find you on ebay? :)

Thank you so much!

I've never sold on ebay, but have purchased some on my account. I think it's listed as spellsingers. I'll have to look.

But, as soon as I get auctions posted, I'll yell. Thanks. :)

Thanks!

When I got home yesterday, I had two messages from employment agencies that were all over my resume.

A business consultant that had been into the company I worked for last fall and was "the enemy" at the time, took a liking to me and said if I ever needed anything, to let him know.

So, I sent him my resume and he's sending it all over the place.

Fingers crossed.

Hey, Janice, would there be anyway to donate other than buying? I mean, I'd like to offer stuff if you need it... I'm a ratpack, so there's gotta be something around here that I can get rid of. (Too emotionally attached to my things; other than helping you, it'll probably be cathartic to me.)

Um, if it'll help, and stuff. I know, it's coming kinda late.
