You know what they say. Where there's a will, there's a way. Right?
So, I have a plan B.
I'm going to start selling off things on eBay until I have enough money to pay my rent. I have enough right now for food. I think I can talk the bank into giving me a couple weeks on my car payment. (At least I'm going to try.) Got Edison to give me a week's extension.
The big problem is rent.
I'm going to start small. Screenwriting software I won in a screenplay contest, books I have duplicates of, video games, DVDs, etc.
Then, I'll work up to my collectibles and electronics.
Lastly, if need be, my precious laptop. The only thing I absolutely REFUSE to sell is Mark's flute. And, of course, I want to try to hang onto my desktop computer. I can't live without her.
If I can cover rent, we'll be okay. Kids can stay in school.
I already have two agencies all over me, wanting me to get together with them tomorrow. I have like a million years of experience. I'm going to be able to find a job. The only problem is that it won't come in time to cover rent.
Deep breath.
Today was...difficult.

Date: 2005-06-01 03:59 am (UTC)If I cover rent, I'll stay. I have some job possibilities, but even if I get a job, the money won't come in time for rent.
No, the owners are not good about making arrangements with people. They're new. The old ones MIGHT have. I've lived here almost 5 years, so it's kinda sad.
But, that's what life does to us sometimes.
I hope you're feeling better today. :)

Date: 2005-06-01 04:00 am (UTC)Since I'm applying for Controller positions, it would only hurt my chances.
You know, in all my years of accounting, I've NEVER seen a company that would help a new employee out that way.
In fact, one job I had, I had my purse stolen and my paycheck and everything and the company did NOT even want to replace it. Isn't that crazy?

Date: 2005-06-01 04:28 am (UTC)I'm not sure how the law in your country works, but a friend's mom was in a similar situation, and, legally, they could not kick her out of her home - she had a good few months in which to organise a new job and catch up the rent payments. Maybe you could explain the situation to your rental agency?
Wishing you good luck with the job hunting, and hopefully something will come through to help you out.

Date: 2005-06-01 01:28 pm (UTC)Sadly, where I live, the law has given rights to the landlords. I understand why. In the past, when it took longer to evict tenants, many landlords found their properties damanged to the tune of thousands of dollars. So, in California, the law made it easier and FASTER to landlords to evict tenants.
My particular complex gives us three days to pay rent. Then, they give you a three day notice to pay or quit. After that, they can go straight to eviction procedings.
Whew! It all seems so fast, but I'm going to see what I can work out. :)

Date: 2005-06-01 01:30 pm (UTC)I think I'm going to try to talk to the new owners of the apartment complex today or tomorrow. I've lived here almost 5 years (next month). If it had been the previous owners, they MIGHT have given me an extra day or two. These people seem really AWFUL, so I'm nervous about it.

Date: 2005-06-01 01:32 pm (UTC)I've never sold on ebay, but have purchased some on my account. I think it's listed as spellsingers. I'll have to look.
But, as soon as I get auctions posted, I'll yell. Thanks. :)

Date: 2005-06-01 01:33 pm (UTC)When I got home yesterday, I had two messages from employment agencies that were all over my resume.
A business consultant that had been into the company I worked for last fall and was "the enemy" at the time, took a liking to me and said if I ever needed anything, to let him know.
So, I sent him my resume and he's sending it all over the place.
Fingers crossed.
