Worst. Birthday. Ever.

I think I'll stop celebrating...or kinda celebrating. I don't really do much.

But, today is enough to turn me off birthdays completely.



Whatever could go wrong today, DID go wrong. I can't believe it. I can't even remember the last time I had a day like this.

I guess the kitties waking me up at 3:43 was an omen of some sort. I don't know.

And, then there were a million little things that made us run late leaving home this morning.

So, I TRIED to call work to tell them I was late and discovered my cell service had been CUT OFF. So, I stopped at the grocery (my son had to get a snack to take on a field trip) and used a pay phone to call Sprint PCS.

I was on the phone TWENTY-FIVE minutes with them. My son was almost late to school. They transferred me FIVE times.

They said my bill was $661 and that was over my limit!!! Excuse me...I paid my bill in full LAST FREAKING Wednesday.

Then, they said I'd added a new phone to my account. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, they said I'd cancelled my service. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, they settled on the fact that I owed $661 in INTERNET CHARGES!!!

Again, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

But, they stuck with that story, said they'd connect me with someone else...and disconnected me.

Took my son to school.

Screw everything. Stopped for breakfast. I can do that on my birthday. Right?

Got here to work. They'd sent everybody (almost) home. LAID THEM ALL OFF!!!!! It was CHAOS and crying and people freaking out because we haven't been paid in THREE WEEKS. And, what was going to happen to their 401K. Etc.

Since I'm Controller, I was stuck right in the middle of it all. And, I had to handle everyone and their problems.

Then, the owner came and took the LAST OF THE MONEY so he and his brother could get paid!!!

Called Sprint PCS. This time, they kept me on the phone 40 minutes. I told them there was NO WAY I could have internet charges because THEY HAD TURNED OFF MY PHONE FOR NON-PAYMENT (because I wasn't getting paychecks) for the time period they said the charges were made.

They opened a case. Siad it would take 3-5 days. Transferred me to Finance to see if I could get a temporary credit. I explained my story and they HUNG UP ON ME!!!

I e-mailed my boss/the owner and told him Friday was going to be my last day, that, without money, I couldn't pay rent or car payment or insurance. This time, he didn't try to talk me out of it.

But, he asked for my home phone number. If they work something out with funding, he wants to call me back or something stupid like that.

So...whole new set of problems.

Rent
Car payment
Electricity
Car insurance
Daughter only has three weeks until gradutaion
Youngest son only has three more weeks of school
Three cats

I'm sure there are more, but I'm trying NOT to think about them right now.

I'm having to deal with everyone else's problems. I'm stuck here for another 20-30 minutes because I promised someone I'd wait until they came in (they called) to ask some questions and turn in some paperwork.


I was going to take off at lunch today and go celebrate my birthday. When lunch came, I had no appetite.

Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow and take off then.

With everything that happened, I didn't get Critters crits done for eugie and pet_hypothesis. I'm sorry. If either of you can still use them, I'd love to send them to you later. I loved your stories and would love to comment.

There. It's all out. I needed that.

Don't feel better yet, but maybe once I leave for the day.

My youngest son has a HUGE district wide (school district) concert tonight. He's playing in both band and handbells. They do this every year. There's a wonderful grand finale with the middle and high school bands and the middle and high school choruses (four schools represented) that's an Andrew Lloyd Weber medley. My son has TWO flute solos. He's so excited. I'm so excited. He's been practicing lots.

So, tomorrow has to be better. Right?

Jeez, that's even worse than the birthday where I was attacked by a man in a gorilla suit (while I was sitting in a dentists' chair getting a filling, no less.)

Having just spent five days getting my own phone service fixed, I totally sympathize. BTDT with the layoff thing too, few years back when the dotcoms started to crash and burn. It sucks. Worrying about money is a horrible thing, particularly when you've got children.

But ultimately, things will work out -- you just never know they're going to until they do. So enjoy the things you can, and take whatever steps you need to to resolve the rest of it. Don't fall into the trap of trying to envision a worst-case scenario and then one-up it. Bad use of the imagination, trust me (-:

If you do have time some time later, yes, I could use it (am in middle of exams, so revising isn't going to happen for a while.) But life comes first, so don't stress about it.
