The words "favourite" and "horror" don't go together for me. I remember being scared witless by the very first Halloween when I was a teen. Mostly, I avoid them, preferring thrillers and adventure flicks.
All depends on my mood. Loved the Bourne movies and Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones (1 & 3). Oldies: North by Northwest and African Queen.
I realized after I posted this, that probably my all-time favourite movies are dramas: The Last Samurai and The Pianist.
But really, there are just so many movies I love (and we own over 600) that "favourite" often depends on the moment and what I feel like watching. I just love a good story.
I'm such a wussy. I love horror novels, but movies really scare the snot out of me. Always have. I still haven't seen "Alien" from beginning to end, although I have seen almost the entire movie in bits and pieces.
Favorite horror film? Not any slasher movie, or movie with too much tension - well, okay, tension is fine. I like Jaws and a couple of others, but I abhor films with gore, blood and guts spread all over the sets. But I do "enjoy" the 'thriller' aspect of the genre on film. No gore, but scares galore. Heck, that special that was on Cable the other night (The Top 100 Scarey Moments In Film) was ONLY the scariest moments in some films...still freaked me out though.
Though Stephen King's "Rose Red" might have been even better than the Shining; I never got a chance to see the end, but the first two hours were astounding.
The Prophecy with Christopher Walken. Viggo as the devil ::dies:: The First Power with Lou Diamond Phillips. I remember jumping at every noise and wrapping myself up in a blanket. Fallen with Denzel Washington. There's a montage where the evil entity is singing "Ti-i-i-me is on my side." Seriously freaking.
