The feeling that I want for the opening of Out of the Darkness.
I don't claim that the scene is perfect and will stay. I don't claim that the writing is good.
I do claim that the FEELING, the atmosphere, the starting point is good and what I really needed for this book all along.
Hallelujah!
The other attemps DO fit into the book and will stay unless proven not to fit on the NEXT rewrite, but they fall a little later than the new starting point and will provide angst and insight and depth all their own.
Now, if I can finish the new opening scenes, I can then proceed to hack out all the other stuff that isn't what I want now, replot to make sure the story falls the way I want and is paced well, and then start a really good revision with the story firmly in place.
