The words.
I don't know where they came from.
But when I sat down at the computer after MUCH cleaning, they were there, waiting for me and they came to me in a rush of "what the heck are you and where did you come from?" and "ooooh, nice, that explains what's going to happen in that book and that book and...where did you say you came from again?".
I'm sure a lot of them won't make the cut, but...they've steered me in a direction that I think I needed to be steered.
And, I love it when that happens.
That probably means I won't finish this novel on schedule--not unless a major miracle occurs--but I'm enjoying the exploration now and I hope it continues to be fruitful and enjoyable like it is right now.
Oh, and about the cleaning. You women who have had children will probably understand it. I do this pretty much before I finish each novel. You know how you get a burst of energy before you have a baby and just HAVE to clean? I think they call it the "nesting" urge?
Well, I tend to do that with my novels, too. I guess all that productive energy or something.
How strange.
