I sat down at breakfast this morning (yes, thank you, I DO go to breakfast any time I can manage when I have a day off, LOL) to work on more plotting for my current screenplay and novel.

All was going well. Extremely well. I got some sections down that I didn't have clear in my head before.

While I had the ending all laid out and knew basically what the plot was for the rest of the novel, I didn't have a beginning I was happy with, nor did did I have intimate details...especially for the middle of the novel.

All of the sudden, the entire book...more or less (missing a few intimate details) popped into my head.

Only...

IT WASN'T THE SAME BOOK I WAS PLOTTING!!!

It was the same basic story, yes, but it wasn't MY book.

It was something MUSE had been working on in spite of my best efforts to plot the story I was trying to tell.

Which, of course, explains why I was having trouble with it.

She knew the real story that needed to be told.

And, yes, she liked my basic ending...she said only the last couple of scenes had to go.

I, of course, am digging in my heels, and telling her it won't work that way...especially for the screenplay since I'm going to use it for a class I'm taking and I don't think Hollywood is quite ready for this.

She shakes her head, looks at me (in my mind's eye) with those wise eyes, and tells me in her always patient tone, "If you write it, they will read."

"Yeah," I tell her, "and...and...laugh."

"Ah," she says. "So, that's what's been bothering you. You who write screenplays about super heroes and magic mirrors and people trading places. Yes, laughter would hurt. But, the spirit would hurt more if you don't write what you want. You must write not what you think you SHOULD write, but that which burns in your heart. If you don't...don't write. Don't fear to do your best or be what you know you can be...even if it IS different."

Sigh.

Muses are wise that way, aren't they?

The new story might never sell, but I love it and it loves me and I will make it the best I can.

Happy. :)

Overall, you are a refined lady with excellent manners.
But you also know when to relax and not get too serious about etiquette

From the one week free trial to the Hollywood Creative Directory.

I could, of course, use the one-year subscription since they update each day and have so many databases available.

However, I shall save for it. They sent me a coupon for a special deal on the annual subscription.

For now, I have TONS of information.

I printed out information for many agents, TONS of production companies, and also information for managers and entertainment attorneys.

Going to put it all in a notebook so I have it when I have time to sit down and whip out a bunch of query letters.

Helps to be prepared.

Oh, yeah, for a couple of hours tonight.

I was on the road most of the day.

Had breakfast.

Took daughter and her friend to Anime Expo. Dropped them off.

Came home to get boys and went to local Borders that's closing down the end of this week. Bought 75% off journals, bookmarks, and beautiful Asian note cards.

Took youngest to Game Crazy for a (believe it or not) OLD regular Nintendo game. That was before his time, kinda, so he's now enamored of it, in spite of the fact that we have Playstation 2, Gamecube, and X-box. (Also Playstation 1, Super Nintendo, and N64.)

Oldest son took youngest and I to lunch. I had great soup and salad. Too hot to eat heavy food.

Came home in time to get call from daughter to pick her up.

Oldest and I drove down to Anaheim. Picked daughter and her friend up. Stopped at Sonic for food since we have none up here, dropped her friend off in Azusa and then came home. In total the run to get them and food took about TWO HOURS.

She brought home gifts and catalogs, and many wonderful things. :)

Fiddled around with the screenplay again. Used the opening my Muse told me I HAD to use. Racked up a few more words on it.

Theoretically, I'm about 1/6 of the way through with it now. Might have it done by this time next week...maybe sooner.

I haven't been good about keeping word count meters lately. Too interested in the writing process itself. Too tired for much record-keeping.

Going to work on novel more soon. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe after finishing screenplay. I still have time to finish it this month once I'm not distracted with screenplay.

Well, actually, if I use screenplay for class I'm going to take, maybe I'll be more distracted. :)

Anyway, I'm rambling and trying to get this done in a hurry so I can sleep.

I've been really wiped out lately. I think it's from getting used to the new job, working six days in a row, and just not getting enough sleep.

Now, it's caught up with me. Okay, I lied. It caught up with me maybe a week ago. That's part of the reason I haven't been so productive and have been a little down lately.

Time to work on sleep.

Too tired for monthly and annual meters again.

Will catch up on them this weekend. :)
