For some reason, two of my kitty boys are needy right now. They want to be held and cuddled and talked to...but ONLY by ME. The kids aren't good enough for them right now.

Malik sits beneath my desk when he feels neglected and nips at my knees until I pick him up, or he wanders around the apartment crying until I find him.

Now, today, Kero has started the crying. Or he'll run in the bedroom, want someone to follow him, and take off. If not followed, he'll jump onto the back of the sofa and yowl!

The first time he did it, I thought he was hurt. But...nope...he just wanted attention.

Strange baby cats.

Query letters that is. Guaranteed read query letters.

It's kind of ironic, too.

One letter is going to the production company that almost bought Atonement, which I just sent a hard copy of yesterday to another production company to read.

The other letter is going to an agent that also read Atonement, loved the writing but not so much the story, but agreed to rep me if the production company bought it.

So, when it didn't sell, that was a double whammy.

This time, I'm querying a DIFFERENT exec at the prodco. The man I dealt with before (who was a real love and called me on the phone three times and was excited and giving pointers and a total doll to deal with) is now the co-president of another production company, also headquartered at Universal.

So...off track here...now that I've discovered where the first exec went and that he's a president of his OWN production company, the wheels are turning toward something to send to him.

At any rate, I think it's kinda freaky that I have the chance to query these two people/produco at the same time...AGAIN.

I almost queried Super Mom to the prodco. It might be something they'd consider since it's light (mostly) and has some comedy to it. But, since I'd already sent a super-hero type screenplay (even though it had a totally different mood and feel to it) there, I decided NOT to go with it, just in case they keep a log of submissions. Some companies do...though this goes back a few years. Still, why take a chance?

I decided to go with Overnight Sensation instead. I'm not sure how my logline and query for it come across. I hope well. I've just actively started querying it recently. Sent out letters for it a time or two before the title and a few aspects of it changed. Didn't get any response. I've queried it a couple of times recently, but it's too soon to hear anything so I guess I'll query it for a while.

I had already decided to query Overnight Sensation to the agent. She is like my DREAM agent, but she wanted something more REAL from me. This is rather comedic, though the main character has a definite story arc and some big decisions to make. So, I'm hoping it will be real enough for her to at least request it. I guess we'll see.

I have two new ideas for screenplays. One just hit me today...title first. It's going to be called Queen of the Masquerade Ball and will be a supernatural thriller. The other transformed from an idea I've had for a little while into a real story, so I've started making notes and working on a logline for that. It's title is Star Lost and it will be mild science fiction/fantasy. Present day setting. Some magic involved.

But, very rewarding, so I can't complain.

Got the two query letters mailed out today. Got some notes made and ideas jotted down. Hope to do some actual plotting tomorrow.

I wanted to write tonight, but after oldest and I went to the post office and then to pick up Fatburger, I discovered I was exhausted. So, I have only a few new words written today.

So, since I seem to be addicted to editing right now *grin* I decided to edit some. Some of it bordered on what I call story maintenance.

What that means is that I ordered my universe more.

While writing a new opening to Out of the Darkness, I discovered that I had been right originally when I thought I needed a book before it, one to really introduce the cultures, the characters, and the evil that had been returned to the universe.

The problem was that, when I'd attempted to plot and start one, nothing came out. So, I assumed--obviously wrongly--that I just needed a short new opening for Out of the Darkness.

But, as I wrote (both on it and other areas of the story universe), I discovered the bulk of the story that wanted to be told, including new characters and a way to support a section that I had cut out of Out of the Darkness to use elsewhere. I knew it had a place, I just had to wait to find it. And, now, I have.

I cut most of that into the new novel. It's working title is The Dawning of the Dark. Some of it, I left in the cut file to use elsewhere...not in these two novels, but probably in the third of this section of the story universe.

So, I cut the new opening OUT of Out of the Darkness. Added the section that fit together with it. And, made it a new file.

Then, I cut a little more from the beginning of Out of the Darkness and left it with an opening that I hadn't considered before, but that will really fit after the first novel ends up.

I did a LITTLE editing on it tonight. Not tons, but it's a start. Now, it's a complete, I'm satisfied (for now) with this story file that I can edit into a second draft. Hooray!

I'm not sure I'll really keep up with how many words I cut from it other than the fact that I'll post progress meters to show it shrink toward my ultimate word count goal.

Tomorrow, I'll probably write. I just didn't have enough living brain cells tonight. :)
