Christmas for the Soldiers in Iraq
Dec. 1st, 2004 08:37 pmA few folks on a writing group I used to belong to were interested in sending goodies to some of the soldiers in Iraq for Christmas, but I read an AT&T news article that said it's really hard to do. According to the article, there are so many anonymous packages going that they can't be sent. And, only packages addressed to real people with real addresses can be sent.
So, I thought and I thought and I decided that I should get my kids involved because they have friends actually stationed in Iraq...two of them are brothers that graduated from the high school my daughter attends and that my oldest son graduated from.
And, since my daughter is in ROTC, I suggested she also see if she could get info from their First Sergeant, who has an 18 year-old son over there.
So, now I have a wonderfully huge list of items the soldiers would love to have. And, First Sergeant is e-mailing his son tonight to get the names of all the soldiers in his platoon! And their mailing address.
My mission now, is to spread all this information to as many people as I can, in hopes that these wonderful men can have a nice Christmas and know how many people over here are thinking about them.
